Zyxel ATP/USG FLEX/USG/ZyWALL/VPN lifecycle status — the real story
Zyxel ZLD firewall appliance lifecycle (ATP, USG FLEX, USG, USG20(W)-VPN, ZyWALL, VPN and NSG series) from Zyxel's global End-of-Life page (JS-rendered table read in-browser and verified 2026-09-02; ATP and USG FLEX rows added 2026-10-09). Cycles are hardware models. Zyxel publishes three milestones and we map them in order: support = End of Development (no more firmware features or maintenance), eol = End of Vulnerability Support (no more security fixes — the two dates differ for the USG20(W)-VPN, ATP and USG FLEX models and are identical for every other model), extendedSupport = End of Life ('all support services for hardware and firmware will cease, including signature releases'). releaseDate is null — Zyxel's table does not publish launch dates. latest = the 'latest firmware' string Zyxel prints per model with the leading 'V' dropped (e.g. USG40 = 4.73(AALA.2)C0, ATP100 = 5.43(ABPS.0)C0), frozen forever at EOL. Zyxel's Migration Path column is not stored.
The entire ZLD 4.x on-prem fleet (USG 40-1900, ZyWALL 110/310/1100) ended vulnerability support 2022-12-31 and hit full EOL 2024-05-16; the VPN50-1000 series ended vulnerability support 2023-09-30. USG2200 and USG2200-VPN hit all three milestones at once on 2026-09-30 — part of the September 30, 2026 cluster. Models EOL more than 3 years move to Zyxel's archived-EOL PDF (linked on the page).
ATP and USG FLEX (added 2026-10-09, read in-browser from the same table that day): ATP100, ATP100W, ATP200, ATP500, ATP700, ATP800, USG FLEX 100, USG FLEX 100AX, USG FLEX 100W, USG FLEX 200, USG FLEX 500 and USG FLEX 700 all print End of Development 2027-06-30, End of Vulnerability Support 2030-06-30 and End of Life 2030-06-30, with Zyxel listing ZLD V5.43 (per-model build code) as the current firmware on 2026-10-09 (these models still receive security fixes, so their latest value will move), and with the matching USG FLEX H model as the migration path (ATP100/100W and USG FLEX 100/100AX/100W to USG FLEX 100H, ATP700/800 to USG FLEX 700H). Out of scope: the SCR 50AXE security router on the same table (End of Development 2027-01-01, End of Vulnerability Support and End of Life 2028-12-31, migration to USG LITE 60AX) is a router, not a ZLD firewall, and is not modelled here.
KEV context: CISA files five exploited CVEs under product 'Multiple Firewalls' (CVE-2022-30525, CVE-2023-28771, CVE-2023-33009, CVE-2023-33010, CVE-2024-11667). Zyxel's own advisories, read 2026-10-09, name the ATP and USG FLEX series among affected devices for CVE-2022-30525 (with USG FLEX 50(W)/USG20(W)-VPN and the VPN series) and CVE-2023-28771 (with the VPN series and ZyWALL/USG) (patched while in support; the lifecycle risk is the fleet that can no longer receive such patches). The Zyxel DSL-CPE, NAS, GS1900 switch and consumer-router KEV entries are different product lines and are excluded from this product's scope.
Zyxel ATP/USG FLEX/USG/ZyWALL/VPN release and support pattern
Of the 36 release lines tracked, 22 are past end of life and 14 are still within support. The next scheduled end of life is ATP100 on June 30, 2030 — 1358 days from this build. The longest-supported line currently published is USG20W-VPN, to June 30, 2030. Upstream also publishes an extended-support phase for 36 lines, shown in the table above.

Zyxel ATP/USG FLEX/USG/ZyWALL/VPN security intelligence
CISA KEV history: Zyxel ATP/USG FLEX/USG/ZyWALL/VPN is named in CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog 5 times, most recently on 2024-12-03, including use in ransomware campaigns. Derived from CISA's live catalog at every build.
What does Zyxel ATP/USG FLEX/USG/ZyWALL/VPN end of life mean for your organization?
When a version of Zyxel ATP/USG FLEX/USG/ZyWALL/VPN reaches end of life, the maintainers stop issuing security patches. Vulnerabilities discovered after this date are publicly disclosed on the National Vulnerability Database, exploit code appears on GitHub, and your systems remain permanently exposed.
The CVE blind spot: A CVE-based scan does not show the accumulation of unpatched vulnerabilities in EOL software. Some scanners flag unsupported versions of common products, but coverage varies, and none of them give you the date in advance. With a zero-day, nobody knows about the vulnerability. With EOL software, the vulnerability is public — listed, rated, and often weaponized — but no vendor patch is coming. This is one of the most dangerous gaps in enterprise security posture.
Organizations running EOL Zyxel ATP/USG FLEX/USG/ZyWALL/VPN should treat it as a vulnerability class in their risk register, apply compensating controls (network segmentation, enhanced monitoring, access restriction), and prioritize migration to a supported version.
Your options when Zyxel ATP/USG FLEX/USG/ZyWALL/VPN reaches end of life
There are four realistic paths. Which one is right depends far more on how long the system needs to keep running than on the version you are on today.
| Option | Best when | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Move to a supported version | The system will outlive the current version's support window and you can schedule the work | Budget for compatibility testing, not just the upgrade itself — that is where the real cost sits |
| Replace the component | The project is unmaintained, or a better-supported alternative exists | The replacement has its own lifecycle and its own end-of-life date — you are changing vendors, not escaping the problem |
| Buy extended support | Migration is genuinely underway but cannot finish before the deadline, or the workload is frozen by certification or a third-party application | A bridge, not a destination — every year purchased is a year the migration still has to happen |
| Document accepted risk | The system is isolated, short-lived, or scheduled for retirement | Only defensible with real compensating controls and a written decision — auditors treat undocumented end-of-life software as a finding |
How to choose, in one question: how many more years does this system need to run? Under a year, extended support (where it exists) is usually cheaper than an emergency migration. One to three years, migrate — support purchased repeatedly costs more than doing the project once, and the project only gets harder as the version ages. Indefinitely, migrate now and plan the next migration before it surprises you.
Worth saying plainly, because vendors selling extended support rarely will: extended support is often the more expensive choice over a multi-year horizon. It is the right answer when a deadline is genuinely unreachable, not as a default. Compare the annual fee against the one-time cost of migrating before committing to either.

Extended Support Options
If you cannot migrate immediately, extended support vendors provide continued security patches for EOL Zyxel ATP/USG FLEX/USG/ZyWALL/VPN versions. This is a bridge, not a permanent solution — plan your migration in parallel.
Zyxel ATP/USG FLEX/USG/ZyWALL/VPN has 22 versions past end of life — security patches have stopped, but CVE disclosures haven't. Extended support past the official date exists for many products in this position — whether it exists for Zyxel ATP/USG FLEX/USG/ZyWALL/VPN is exactly what we check. Tell us where to reach you and we'll reply with matched options and pricing guidance — or an honest "no vendor covers this."
